Estuary Series

I spend a few weeks each year immersing myself amidst the biodiversity of an estuary. The estuary is a place where freshwater and saltwater meet and cycles of renewal and decay hold significance as both a support system and a sanctuary for its inhabitants.

This is a place of transition and fluidity with open connection to the sea. The sea water enters this space with the rhythm of the tides and these patterns of movement tether my being. The artworks in this series reflect my engagement with the water and surrounding fauna of Northern Vancouver Island, coupled with a sense of reverence I feel when I am there.

I sought to unearth subtleties of the area, beyond what the eye can see and focus on the relationships between the estuarine currents, the abundance of living organisms and my own place within this ever evolving ecosystem.
